 Web Site Hosting

OVERVIEW | Build your site | Preparing images | Advanced functions

If you selected the Web Site Hosting option when you ordered your Advantage Internet dialup account, you are provided with a space to place your own Web site.

What can I do with my Web site?

You can use your Web site to tell people about your company and its products. You can include text, pictures, animations, and even sound.

On the technical side, you can use any client-side technology you want, including Java, JavaScript and Active-x, and you can include page-hit counters right in your HTML. You can also keep your pages very simple. To find out more about putting your Web pages together, see Making Your Own Web Pages.

Although you can't use use your own server-side programs (CGI), two very useful CGIs are provided for you. These include a counter script to count how many visits your site has received, and a mailto script for forms. These scripts are located in the global (/cgi-bin) directory. (Find out how to use these scripts in Advanced Functions.)

If you're new to creating Web pages, or just curious, you might want to take a look at our Resources page. There you will find places to get software, books and online resources, all to help you put your Web site together.

Where will my company's Web site be?

The Business Internet service provides space on a special computer (called a server) for your company's Web site. This space remains empty until you put your Web pages there. Find out more about placing your pages on the Web in Uploading Your Pages.
